Leadership Workshop
Outcome and Results
OUTCOME STATEMENT
The Institute for Community Leadership Research Study 2002 provides compelling research based outcomes documenting academic and social-cultural conduct changes critical for student's success in school based settings and in one's community. ICL programming assist students at getting in touch with their core beliefs and values, articulate their truths and connect to an other interestedness essential in the sustenance of motivation to learn. NNLC Outcomes of ICL's Residential Programming
The National Nonviolence Leadership Corps (NNLC) is
a residential program for workshop participants to travel with ICL and
receive advanced nonviolence study and training in the presentation of
ICL curriculum. Students travel around the country to various ICL projects,
typically spending a minimum of two weeks. The following outcomes demonstrate
the significant life transformation NNLC brings to our youth leaders.
NNLC outcomes include: Increases in Grade Point Average (gpa) of an average
.8gpa (one grade level) for students with less than a 2.5gpa prior to
NNLC, and average increase of .34gpa overall. TV viewing drops from 24.74
to 3.32 hours weekly and disciplinary referrals from 1.6 per week to .2
per week. 96% of the students participated in either an elected leadership
body, or recognizable leadership role the school year after NNLC. On a
five point rating scale of 22 leadership characteristics students rate
greatest change in the areas of improved listening skills, the ability
to give and receive coaching, public speaking skills, concern for social
justice and concern for success of peers.
