Reflection

Jack Hunter O'Dell

Development of the Whole Person:
Efforts to create change must focus on the internal strength and character of those seeking change as well as on a change of the status quo. Our efforts to change ourselves, our assumptions and actions must connect to the efforts of others across the globe who work to free lands and peoples of destructive consequences of fear and greed. Reflection coupled with action deepens our humility, understanding and interconnectedness, all of which are fundamental characteristics of transformative leadership. The development of the inner realm and understandings of culture, tradition, manual work, humane values and spiritual beliefs is critical to the formation of a whole, engaged, other-interested personality.

Reflection and action are two elements of a single, well-lived personality.

Action without reflection is disempowering and arrogant.

Reflection without action is weak and anemic.

Reflection does not prove our action, but rather our action proves our reflection.
